July 01 (Citizen News) – The government has launched a national initiative aimed at linking young people who have successfully completed drug rehabilitation programmes with over 400,000 permanent job opportunities in the private sector.

Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Minister Sunil Handunnetti said the programme is designed to train and employ rehabilitated youth in industries experiencing labour shortages, including construction, tiles, footwear, leather products, and the automobile sector.

He noted that the initiative seeks to reduce dependence on foreign labour by equipping Sri Lankan youth with vocational training and directing them into available job vacancies.

The programme will be carried out in collaboration with the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board, the Bureau of Rehabilitation, the technical and vocational education and training sector, and the Ministry of Industries.
