March 29 (Citizen.lk News) - In a strategic move to fortify its district-level leadership, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organizer, Namal Rajapaksa, has officially appointed leading businesswoman Harini Wijethunghe and veteran media professional Karuppiah Ramakrishnan as District Organizers.
The appointments signal the party’s intent to blend high-level international academic backgrounds, entrepreneurial expertise, and media savvy into its core organizational structure.
Strategic Leadership for Colombo and Nuwara Eliya
Harini Wijethunghe, a prominent figure in the Sri Lankan corporate landscape, has been tasked with organizing efforts in the Colombo District. A leading businesswoman and dedicated social service activist, Wijethunghe brings a formidable international educational background to the role, holding a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) and an International MBA (IMBA) from Buckinghamshire New University, London, United Kingdom. Her appointment is expected to bridge the gap between the urban business community and the party’s grassroots supporters in the capital, leveraging her global perspective on corporate leadership and community development.
Meanwhile, Karuppiah Ramakrishnan has been appointed as an Organizer for the Nuwara Eliya District. Ramakrishnan is a highly qualified professional, holding an External Degree in Mass and Media Journalism from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and currently pursuing a BSc in Economics at the Royal Institute.
A seasoned media professional with over twenty years of experience in journalism and broadcasting, he currently serves as the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Sports Journalists Association (SLSJA) and is an active member of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS). His deep ties to both the plantation sector and the international sporting community make him a vital asset in strengthening the party’s presence in the hill country.

Speaking on the appointments, National Organizer Namal Rajapaksa emphasized the importance of bringing in individuals with proven academic and professional track records to lead regional branches.
