Sri Lanka into Semis thrashing India 100-34

August 12 (Citizen News) - Sri Lanka Netball team continued their winning form when they thrash India 100-34 in their 14th Asian Netball Championship group fixture played at Kai Tak Arena Hong Kong yesterday.

Sri Lanka team led by Thishala Algama dominated the game from the beginning winning all four quarters without much effort to post 66 points lead in this one sided affair. The victory also paved the way for Sri Lanka to book a place in semi finals with one group match against Maldives to spare. India maintaining a poor record so far have lost 4 matches in a row and was illuminated from the knock out stage.

Sri Lanka tam entered the battle against India in high morale after recorded their first win over Maldives on previous day. Lankan players showed great confidence yesterday after playing against three top teams in this tournament earlier. Sri Lanka players made clear lead in the first quarter yesterday to win with a big lead (25-8) and have maintained good momentum throughout the game.

The second half saw Sri Lanka maintaining their dominance to win the quarter by 29-11. Experienced Lankan players came to the fore by increasing their total through good passes and a superb teamwork. After half way of the game Sri Lanka led 54-19.

The skipper Thishala Algama, the most successful Goal Shooter was rested after the second quarter and young Bhashi Udagedara came in as her replacement. Bhashi had the opportunity to play through out the last two quarters where she gained much needed exposure at international level.

Sri Lanka were way ahead after the second quarter and the Indians were helpless in both attack and defence.

Lankan lasses won the last two quarters scoring 24-6, 22-9 to finish the game with a huge 66 points margin.

Meanwhile Malaysia won a hard fought battle against defending champions Singapore (56-42) yesterday in their group match. After having back to back wins over Malaysia and India, Sri Lanka will meet Maldives in their last group match today.
