June 24 (Citizen News) - France has confirmed its first case of Ebola, the Health Ministry said, linking the infection to the ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The patient is a doctor who recently returned from a humanitarian mission in Congo. After testing positive for the virus, the individual has been placed in isolation and is receiving medical treatment, the ministry said.
Health authorities have launched contact tracing to identify and monitor individuals who may have been exposed. Officials said the risk of wider transmission remains low and the threat to the general European population is considered minimal at this stage.
The case marks the first Ebola infection recorded in France during the current outbreak in Congo, which has affected more than 1,000 people and caused 267 deaths, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as containment efforts continue.
