June 26 (Citizen News) – Australia’s government is planning to strengthen enforcement of its under-16 social media ban, saying the law must be robust enough to withstand legal challenges. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the focus is also on ensuring the eSafety Commission has sufficient powers to enforce the rules against platforms like Instagram and YouTube.
The move comes after a new study suggested the ban has had limited impact, with most teens still accessing social media by bypassing age checks. Authorities are now also considering legal action against platforms that fail to comply, with significant fines possible for violations.
