May 04 (Citizen News) -Counting of votes is under way in Tamil Nadu, with C. Joseph Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leading in 98 out 234 constituencies across the State, as of 10.45 a.m. on Monday (May 4, 2026). The AIADMK+ is leading in 67 seats, whereas the DMK-led alliance is leading in 42 seats, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Elections to the 234-seat Assembly were held in a single phase on April 23. The total voter turnout stood at 85.1% with 4.8 crore votes polled.
Counting of votes, including postal ballots, from all 75,064 polling stations is being conducted at 62 designated counting centres across the State. Approximately 1.25 lakh security personnel have been deployed and the QR code-based Photo Identity Cards are mandatory for all officials and observers permitted entry into the counting centres and halls.
It is an intense three-cornered battle in the State involving the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), its rival All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), and the new entrant Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). In the exit polls, a majority of pollsters gave an advantage to DMK+. Interestingly, Axis My India gave a massive 98-120 seats to TVK, compared to 92-110 for DMK+ and 22-32 for AIADMK+.
Also in the test is the performance of the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), led by film director Seeman, who has fielded candidates in all 234 constituencies, giving nearly 50% representation to women and one transgender person.
