Supreme Court Dismisses FR Petitions Against Post-Cyclone State of Emergency

February 26 (Citizen.lk News)-The Supreme Court has dismissed two Fundamental Rights (FR) petitions filed against the State of Public Emergency declared by the President following Cyclone Ditwah. The court declined to take up the petitions for consideration.

The petitioners had claimed that the proclamation of emergency was in violation of Fundamental Rights. However, a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, delivered the decision to dismiss the cases.

The State of Emergency was initially established to manage the crisis and recovery efforts in the aftermath of the cyclone, which caused significant disruption across the country.
