Sri Lanka’s Inflation Eases to 2.4% in January as Food Prices Cool

February 23 (Citizen.lk News)-The overall rate of inflation, as measured by the National Consumer Price Index, has decreased to 2.4% in January 2026, according to the latest data released by the Department of Census and Statistics. This represents a decline from the 2.9% recorded in December 2025.

The primary driver for this reduction was a significant drop in food inflation, which fell to 3.4% in January 2026 from 4.4% in the previous month. In contrast, the year-on-year inflation for the non-food group remained unchanged, holding steady at 1.6% for January 2026.
