Sri Lanka Rallies to 'Safeguard Lives' on another Iranian Vessel beyond territorial waters

March 5 (Citizen.lk News)-Sri Lanka is working to "safeguard lives" on a second Iranian vessel currently located in the deep-sea economic zone beyond national boundaries, Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayatissa confirmed Thursday.

The Minister’s statement came in response to a query from the Opposition Leader regarding the status of a second ship reported near the Colombo Port. Addressing the vessel's location and the ongoing government response, Minister Jayatissa clarified:

"The ship in question is not yet within our territorial waters; it is located in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) adjacent to our territorial waters."

When questioned about the perceived concealing of information regarding the vessel, the Minister emphasized that the priority remains the safety of the crew.

"I can only say that we are providing the maximum possible intervention regarding the lives involved. Once these operations are concluded, I will present a detailed report to Parliament," he stated.
