February 05 (Citizen.lk News) - Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunnetti drew attention to Sri Lanka’s highly skilled workforce and emphasized the country’s potential as a hub for regional manufacturing, encouraging Korean investors to utilize local labor to produce goods for markets such as India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
The minister made these remarks during a meeting on February 3 with Lee Hack Young, Deputy Speaker of the Korean Parliament. Minister Handunnetti also thanked the Korean government for providing opportunities for Sri Lankan workers in Korea and stressed the advantages of investing in Sri Lanka’s growing industrial sector.
Deputy Speaker Lee Hack Young acknowledged the capabilities of Sri Lankan workers and noted that Sri Lanka could overcome its current economic challenges, citing Korea’s experience in overcoming similar economic difficulties.
The meeting further focused on strengthening bilateral relations, including resolving mutual visa issues and enhancing the 50-year-old friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
The discussion was attended by a Korean delegation including Bok Kiwang, Song Jaebong, and Jung Hyekyung, along with the Korean Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Miyon Lee.
