February 06 (Citizen.lk News) -Springfield College Kandy at Anniewatte, marked a significant milestone in its sporting journey with the opening of two new indoor badminton courts built to international standards.
The state-of-the-art complex, unveiled last week, further strengthens the sporting infrastructure available to students in the Central Province.
The newly constructed courts are equipped with high-quality synthetic flooring and advanced lighting systems that meet international specifications, offering an optimal playing environment for both training and competition.
With these facilities, the Springfield Badminton Complex stands among the finest courts currently available in the region.
As a fully owned subsidiary of Gateway College, Springfield College Kandy will share the facility with Gateway College Kandy, providing students of both institutions access to top-tier badminton infrastructure.
Outside school hours, the complex will also be open to the public, extending its benefits to the wider Kandy community and promoting the growth of badminton in the region.
The courts were officially declared open by Dr Harsha Alles, Chairman of the Gateway Group and Ramantha Alles, Director, who ceremonially inaugurated the complex by playing a friendly game together.
The event was attended by Asoka Herath, Director, the Principal of Springfield College Kandy, Heads of Gateway Colleges along with teachers and students from both Springfield College Kandy and Gateway College Kandy.
The opening of the badminton complex reflects Springfield and Gateway’s continued commitment to holistic education—where academic excellence is complemented by world-class sporting opportunities that nurture discipline, teamwork and personal growth.
