February 03 (Citizen.lk News) - Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organiser and MP Namal Rajapaksa has alleged that individuals who spread falsehoods during the so-called ‘good governance’ period are now attempting to use State institutions, including the Courts, the Police and the Attorney General’s Department, to validate those lies using public funds.
Speaking to journalists during the Gamin Gamata programme held in Kamburupitiya, Matara, Rajapaksa said such actions amount to a serious misuse of State resources and would ultimately undermine the country’s institutions and social fabric.
He said the Gamin Gamata programme is currently being conducted across several electorates in the Matara district, with the participation and blessings of the Maha Sangha, and that the SLPP leaders would continue to engage with party members at the grassroots level to strengthen the party politically.
Rajapaksa expressed confidence that the party would remain strong in future Local Government elections, including the Pradeshiya Sabha polls, noting that the SLPP has already emerged as a significant political force with substantial public support.
Rajapaksa claimed that individuals involved in forming the former ‘good governance’ administration have now publicly admitted to spending money to tarnish the image of the Rajapaksa-led Governments, while also revealing which organisations and political parties were involved. He alleged that these same individuals are now attempting to legitimise their earlier claims by using State institutions and public funds.
He warned that spending taxpayers’ money to validate fabricated allegations constitutes a grave crime, accusing the Government of engaging in character assassination, spreading hatred and social division, while misusing public resources to cover up political falsehoods. He said those responsible would eventually have to be held accountable.
