RTI Commission failed to address 308 requests for information last year

November 11 (Citizen.lk News) - The Right to Information Commission has failed to attend to 308 requests for information from January 1, 2025, to September 30, 2025, it was revealed yesterday.

As per the information released to Opposition MP Ajith P. Perera, the RTI Commission has failed to attend to 112 inquiries. Accordingly, the number of unattended requests has increased in 2025.

The number of requests for information that have been fulfilled has also been reduced to 1,157 in 2025, compared to 1,837 in 2024. A total number of requests fulfilled in 2023 was 1,500 in 2023, 1,451 in 2022, 475, in 2021, 527, in 2020, 709 in 2029, 549 in 2018 and 57 in 2017.

Also, it has been revealed that the total funds allocated to RTI Commission have been reduced during the latter stages. Accordingly, the amount allocated has been on the high side before 2024. Accordingly, Rs 10 million has been allocated in 2017, Rs 30 million in 2028, Rs 1.1 million in 2019, Rs 7.1 million in 2020, Rs 13 million 2021, while funds have not been allocated in 2022. A sum of Rs 2 million has been allocated respectively in 2023 and 2024. A sum of Rs 5 million has been allocated in 2025.

The RTI Commission was established as per Right to Information ACT No 12 of 2016.
