PM Harini returns from Davos concluding successful discussions at WEF

January 22 (Citizen.lk News) - Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and her delegation returned to Sri Lanka this morning (23 ) following a successful four-day official visit to the 2026 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

The summit, held from 19 to 22 January, provided the Prime Minister with opportunities to meet world leaders, heads of international financial institutions, and business leaders to discuss strategies for strengthening Sri Lanka’s future economic path. The delegation included Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando.

During the visit, Prime Minister Amarasuriya held bilateral discussions with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and ADB President Masato Kanda, focusing on support to ensure the country’s financial stability. She also met with President of Singapore Tham Shanmugaratnam, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, and UNDP Administrator Alexander de Croo, further expanding international relations and boosting global confidence in Sri Lanka.

The Prime Minister delivered a special address at the World Women Davos Agenda 2026, outlining Sri Lanka’s policy stance on the global stage. She also contributed to high-level Stakeholder Dialogues on the employment crisis in emerging markets and global talent development.

In addition, the Prime Minister promoted Sri Lanka’s tourism sector by participating in a high-level dialogue at the Global Tourism Forum (GTF) and engaged with international business leaders, including representatives from AP Moller-Maersk and the Swiss business community, to explore investment opportunities.

The delegation also visited vocational training institutions in Switzerland and met with Sri Lankan businessmen living abroad to encourage their contributions to the country’s development.
