Over 200,000 vehicles imported since January

September 10 (Citizen.lk News) A total of 200,026 vehicles have been imported into the country between January 1 and September 2025, of which 154,537 have already been released by the Department of Customs, the Committee on Finance revealed.

According to the breakdown, the released vehicles include 98,923 motorcycles, 40,323 motor vehicles, 9,025 three-wheelers, 5,368 commercial vehicles, and 898 vans and buses. The Customs Department has generated an income of Rs. 429 billion from these releases.

The Committee further said that 30,594 letters of credit (LCs) had been opened during this period for vehicle imports, with a total value of USD 1,491 million.
