Nipah virus found in Colombo from 2018-2019; it could be around even now, Prof. Neelika Malavige

January 27 (Citizen.lk News) - Nipah virus has been found in Sri Lankan fruit bats in samples collected from Colombo from 2018-2019, and that it could be around even now, Prof. Neelika Malavige said.

Referring to a research article published in bioRxiv, she said in a post on X that symptoms in humans typically appear 4-14 days after infection. 

"Nipah virus has been found in Sri Lankan fruit bats in samples collected from Colombo from 2018-2019. No reason for it to not be around even now. Symptoms in humans typically appear 4-14 days after infection," she said in the post.
