About YSS
Founded in 1917 by Paramahansa Yogananda, the Yogoda Satsanga Society of India is one of the world’s leading spiritual organizations dedicated to the teachings of meditation, self-realization, and harmonious living. Yogananda is best known as the author of the spiritual classic Autobiography of a Yogi, a book that has inspired millions of seekers worldwide.
For over a century, YSS has been dedicated to sharing scientific techniques of meditation and the universal truths underlying all religions. Through meditation classes, spiritual retreats, publications, and guidance from monastic teachers, YSS helps individuals deepen their spiritual lives and discover greater meaning and fulfillment.
Today, Yogananda’s teachings continue to inspire people from all walks of life who seek practical methods for achieving inner peace, spiritual growth, and balanced living.
Understanding Kriya Yoga
At the heart of Paramahansa Yogananda’s teachings is Kriya Yoga, an ancient meditation technique handed down through a lineage of enlightened masters and reintroduced to the modern world for sincere spiritual seekers.
Kriya Yoga is regarded as a practical and scientific approach to meditation that enables individuals to calm the mind, reduce stress, improve concentration, and experience deeper levels of inner peace and spiritual awareness. Practitioners describe it as a powerful method for accelerating personal and spiritual growth through the conscious refinement of life energy.
Although rooted in India’s rich spiritual heritage, Kriya Yoga is non-sectarian and can be practised by people of all religions, cultures, and backgrounds.
Weekend Meditation Programme
Following the public lecture, YSS monks will conduct a two-day meditation and spiritual learning programme on June 6 and 7, 2026, at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Colombo 07.
Participants will learn foundational meditation techniques, gain deeper insights into the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda, and explore practical ways to integrate spiritual principles into everyday life.
Organizers note that the programme is especially relevant in today’s fast-paced world, where increasing numbers of people are seeking tools to manage stress, improve mental well-being, and cultivate a deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment.
The programme is free of charge and open to all.
