February 23(Citizen.lk News)-Keells Launches ‘Farmer Relief Programme’ to Support Communities Hit by Cyclone Ditwa
In a swift response to the agricultural devastation caused by the recent Cyclone Ditwa, Keells has launched a comprehensive ‘Farmer Relief Programme’ to assist its primary farming clusters in rebuilding their livelihoods.
The initiative specifically targets the backbone of the nation’s food supply, focusing on farmers whose crops were destroyed and future plans halted by the extreme weather conditions. From February 17th to 19th, Keells teams were deployed across the island to provide direct, hands-on support to those most severely impacted by the disaster.

The programme provided critical relief to more than 150 adversely affected farmers across several key agricultural hubs. Recognizing that the immediate priority was providing practical resources to restart cultivation, the company distributed support packages that included essential fertilizers to restore soil health and high-quality seeds to replace lost harvests.
Furthermore, Keells provided direct assistance for land preparation to help farmers clear and ready their fields for the new season. These efforts were carried out through a wide nationwide footprint, with teams active on the ground in Keppetipola, Nuwara Eliya, Adikarigama, Thambuttegama, Dambulla, and Jaffna.
By standing alongside these communities during a period of intense crisis, Keells aims to do more than just provide temporary aid; the initiative is designed to instill renewed confidence in the farming sector and ensure the long-term stability of the country's food systems.
The announcement officially noted that this initiative reflects their core purpose of improving the quality of life for the nation. By supporting the farmers who sustain the country every day, the company is not only strengthening its own supply chain but also fostering resilience within the communities that form the heart of the nation’s economy.
