Health Ministry Launches Urgent Three-Day Dengue Suppression Drive in Colombo

February 24 (Citizen.lk News)-The National Dengue Control Unit has initiated a special three-day dengue suppression program starting today within the Colombo Municipal Council areas. Acting Director Dr. Kapila Kannangara stated that the campaign will deploy teams of Public Health Inspectors and community police to high-risk zones to implement targeted control activities.

Colombo currently reports the highest concentration of the virus in Sri Lanka, with 889 cases recorded in the municipal area alone this year. This local surge contributes to a staggering national total of 12,165 dengue patients reported across the island for the year to date.

While the current focus is on the capital, health authorities remain on high alert for other emerging hotspots. Dr. Kannangara noted that significant case numbers have also been reported in the Matara, Galle, and Kandy districts, necessitating continued vigilance nationwide.
