July 02 (Citizen.lk News) - The fuel price formula which was introduced by the previous government is the most reasonable methodology available right now to mete out justice to the people, pay back loans of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and to manage past financial irregularities, Cabinet Spokesman, Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said today.
He told the weekly briefing to announce Cabinet decisions that when a fuel price formula is adopted, people have to face fluctuations of prices.
The Minister said this while responding to a question that the government earlier criticized the fuel price formula which was introduced by the previous government and now adopting a contradictory approach.
He said the government could have provided more relief to the people if the CPC was not in debt and there had been no financial irregularities in fuel procurements during the previous government.
"Financial irregularities committed by the previous minister does not end soon after he vacates. We will have to face the consequences for several more years," he said.
