Former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol Sentenced to Life for Insurrection

February 19 (Citizen.lk News)-A court in Seoul has sentenced the former President of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, to spend the rest of his life in prison.

This is a major moment in the country's history. He was found guilty of trying to illegally take total control of the government in December 2024 by declaring "martial law" (using the military to take over).

The judge ruled that he broke the law by trying to overthrow the country's democratic system to keep himself in power. While the lawyers who brought the case wanted him to receive the death penalty, the judge decided on life imprisonment instead.
