June 24 (Citizen News) - Sri Lanka’s export sector continued its upward trend in early 2026, with total earnings from goods and services surpassing USD 7.3 billion during the January–May period.
Provisional figures released by Sri Lanka Customs, including estimates for gems and jewellery as well as petroleum-related exports, show that combined export earnings reached about USD 7,393.39 million. This reflects a 7.56% increase compared to the corresponding period in 2025.
Merchandise exports contributed USD 5,758.44 million, recording year-on-year growth of 7.63%, while services exports rose to USD 1,634.95 million, up 7.31% from the previous year.
In May 2026 alone, both segments posted stronger gains, with merchandise exports increasing by 18.25% and services exports rising by 18.67% compared to May 2025
